A Week of Highs and Lows

Yesterday, in the absence of our regular host, the irreplaceable GreenCandleJack, XO Weekly was fronted by WhiteCoco4U and PhoenixxDown, who were joined by our master of TA, Landy, and the OG of OGs, Rik G.

Topics of discussion ranged from the freshly launched Odin Fun, the news that Tether is bringing USDT to Bitcoin, "Is this the hardest cycle yet?" and much more insight on the Hyperliquid rumors and how it will effect CEXs.

Plus, Landy gave an in-depth breakdown of where you can get decent USDC yield for staking.

I’m delighted to say that the only thing missing from this week's show was music at the start and finish—not a bad job all around! That said, hopefully, we’ll have the dulcet Dutch tones of Jack back in the saddle next Friday. Wishing you a swift recovery, sir!

This Past Week: A Quick Recap

Monday, Jan 27

The $RUNES memecoin launch on Solana by Runetoshi caused controversy, highlighting Solana’s rapid attention cycles and liquidity risks. Allegations of insider dumping, potential rug pulls, and X account bans fueled drama, shaking confidence in the ecosystem.

Tuesday, Jan 28

Magic Eden introduced a major improvement to its Bitcoin Runes marketplace by enforcing smaller lot sizes, preventing price manipulation. The change enhances liquidity, enables broader participation, and has already led to an uptick in Runes floor prices.

Wednesday, Jan 29

Crypto traders are struggling with what many are calling the "hardest cycle yet," as altcoins continue to bleed against Bitcoin despite the supposed bull market. While some fear a market top, others see room for upside, with AI, liquidity growth, and global adoption driving a potential recovery.

Thursday, Jan 30

The Federal Reserve held rates steady, but Chair Jerome Powell’s softened stance on crypto banking sparked optimism. Meanwhile, the European Central Bank cut rates, raising speculation that the Fed could follow—potentially igniting a massive Bitcoin rally.

Friday, Jan 31

Odin Fun, a new Runes AMM, launched with instant transactions, easy liquidity management, and meme coin creation, breathing life into the ecosystem. With comparisons to Pump.fun, traders see Odin as a turning point for Runes adoption and engagement.

Will next week finally bring relief?

Has everyone capitulated enough yet?

Or are the bears right in calling for alts to go into negative figures?

Todays Markets

Catch up with Landy in yesterday’s Friday Wrap-Up session:

Ordinals

Another brutal red day across the wider market, bringing catastrophic losses to highly speculative assets like memecoins and AI tokens. However, the damage doesn’t seem quite as severe in Ordinals.

Even so, fresh lows have been hit for Puppets and NodeMonkes, both dropping to 0.06 BTC. Not calling a bottom here—never seems to work.

Quantum Cats, on the other hand, are up 3% on the day, standing out in a market with little demand across the board.

The real exception? Unsanctioned Wizards, showing incredible strength with an almost 70% surge on a bloody day. The cult is strong over there—no surprises they’re holding up well.

Runes

Yesterday saw the Odin pump, and now we retrace as underwater holders list into the uptick in volume. This is likely amplified by the broader market meltdown.

TheRealTrumpRune breaks into the top 5—an airdrop to holders of @thetrumpstone with a snapshot taken on January 29 for recipients.

Notably, this is the first time in a while that $BDC hasn’t featured in the top 5, though it’s holding up better than some, losing less compared to others in the top 10.

$BRO is a stand out up almost 30% today and is the clear winner of the small caps making it to 5th for volume.
