It is with deep sadness that we dedicate this issue of XO Dispatch to our friend and valued community member, GANSY, known to so many as the founder of the @RareSatSociety, following the recent news of his passing.

A true crypto ancient active since 2011, GANSY was a pioneering generative artist, and a driving force in the Bitcoin Ordinals ecosystem in it’s early days. He blended code, creativity, and community like few others, creating colorful, innovative artwork, sharing alpha generously among his communities, and welcoming newcomers with open arms.

We were deeply honored that GANSY called Extraordinals his “veritable family,” and we cherished him as one of our own. He touched many of our lives in different ways - whether that be through his art, his superb ability to help his friends make money in these difficult markets, or just chatting about shared outside interests. GANSY was a special one.

As the man himself said, “Bitcoin is eternal, which makes this art eternal.”

And so, GANSY is eternal.

Below, our friend Rik, who knew him well for over five years, shares his own personal tribute.

In Memoriam: GANSY

by Rik G

It was the summer of 2021 and NFTs were all the rage. I had only been in the crypto world for less than a year and didn’t know much about anything. One evening, I was scrolling Twitter and saw a post about AI artwork NFTs.

There was an opportunity to get a custom-made piece from TheGANSMachine. The art was so colorful and genuinely unique. I instantly joined the Discord to try and win that spot.

When I hopped in, the voice channel was packed with people. I jumped in and met Gansy along with a couple of other OG crypto legends who welcomed me with open arms.

Gansy and I immediately hit it off! We had a ton in common, from coin collecting to Pokémon to automobiles and everything in between. He felt like a long-lost friend I didn’t know I had. He was always early to the newest trends and was the first person I saw seriously using AI in any meaningful way.

Gansy shared so much of his time and knowledge with nearly everyone he met. He was always looking for opportunities and loved bringing his friends along for the ride. Over the next five years, we met up at conferences, art shows, and Ordinals events, always having a great time.

We joined ExtraOrdinals on the same day and went full send into Ordinals together.

He had such an advantage because he’d been mining BTC since 2011 and already had tons of experience with wallets and the intricacies of the Bitcoin blockchain.

That’s when he told me about his idea for Rare Sat Society and how Casey Rodarmor had already defined the rarity table for satoshis, and thus Gansy saw a massive opportunity for collectors like us.

He went headfirst into it, nearly creating an entire industry around rare sats. The RSS server was on fire for the next few months. Everyone came there looking for info, asking questions about wallets, padding, inscribing, and more. The who’s who of early inscriptions were all in that server.

And through it all, Gansy kept helping everyone; how to inscribe, how to transfer Ordinals without accidentally spending them (which used to be a huge issue), how to front-run inscriptions, how to avoid getting front-run, how to properly pad, and on and on. He was always a wealth of information and willing to jump on a voice chat to help if needed.

It wasn’t just the BTC ecosystem either. His trading skills were excellent too. He made a killing shorting LUNA all the way down during the crash. He knew the cycles extremely well. In 2023, he told me to buy a few alts and said, “Thank me in two years.” Damn if he wasn’t spot on again. Thanks, Gansy.

I have dozens of similar stories of Gansy sharing his knowledge about this industry, and I’m sure many others do as well. I don’t have siblings, but Gansy felt like a little brother in so many ways. We had our differences and argued about stuff, but we always came back a little while later and picked right up like nothing happened. Like family.

I will cherish the time we had together and hope the memories never fade.

Rest in peace, and thank you for everything, my brother!
