Bitcoin: a Hot Topic In the American Election

With the elections just 20 days away, things are clearly heating up! Polymarket is currently favoring a Trump victory—a sentiment that could also be driving yesterdays massive ETF inflows, as more traditional investors bet on a more favorable investing landscape following a Republican win.

However, Polymarket doesn’t tell the full story. As a single, financialized source, it offers a limited perspective. Other sources present different metrics, like this graph from a national polling agency, which reflects a national lead for Harris.

These metrics, though seemingly contradictory, are not mutually exclusive due to the unique structure of the American voting system. It’s crucial to consider multiple sources and assume all carry some level of bias.

Shifting focus from who might win to what the outcome could mean for our industry is equally important. An interesting comparison table, compiled by Alex Thorn, contrasts Biden, Harris, and Trump on crypto policy and legislation.

Based on current campaign promises, Trump appears more crypto-friendly and actively supportive of the industry. While Harris shows some improvement over Biden, it’s important to note that Biden’s record is based on his actions in office, whereas both Harris’s and Trump’s positions are based on campaign promises.

In the past weeks, Harris has been trying to attract the crypto industry and its users without making too many concrete promises. Most recently, she formalized her pro-crypto stance in this statement, where she describes how she “appreciates the ways in which new technologies can broaden access to banking and financial services” and that she will “ensure owners and investors in digital assets benefit from a regulatory framework that protects Black men and others participating in this market.”

The peculiar focus on Black men in this statement seems to align with a broader strategy to sway this voting demographic. Let’s give Kamala the benefit of the doubt and assume she’d also like to protect white men and all women. However, the more significant point is that this still doesn’t promise anything tangibly positive. It could merely signal protection in the way Biden has—protecting from potential gains but not from disasters like FTX. Whoops 😅.

We’re not here to tell you how to vote, but it’s important to understand the current intentions behind all the political double-speak. That’s where Alex Thorn’s table provides clarity.

It’s commonly believed the market will experience temporary volatility regardless of who wins, as markets tend to dislike uncertainty. Once the election outcome is clear, this uncertainty should dissipate.

For the next 20 days, those on the sidelines will watch with popcorn in hand, while our friends in the United States must make their decisions in what promises to be an epic election.

Ordinals

After this weekend’s pullback, Ordinal collections are showing some strength, with Puppet Maxi Biz significantly down by 25.5% after its major 150%+ gain yesterday.

Most other collections are ranging from fairly stable to significantly up, with both Bitmap and Pizza Ninja seeing slight double-digit increases.

Looking at the volume, it seems a predicted rotation from Runes back into Ordinals is taking place today. Puppets and Nodemonkes are still battling for the top position, with Puppets once again taking a decisive lead.

Runes

Yikes!… After a period of exuberant speculation on Runes, today saw a serious pullback on all the major Runes except for newcomer Based Angels. It’s great to see them holding on and almost doubling down on yesterday’s gains.

Volume has decreased, with some of it shifting to Ordinals, possibly indicating a rotation toward collections.

Interestingly, three out of the nine top Runes by volume are younger than 24 hours. The explosive success of GIZMO upon release seems to have sparked a wave of FOMO for new mints, with investors chasing similar one-day gains.

This might also explain the decrease in volume among the top Runes, as trading activity shifts to minting fees, with traders taking on more risk for potentially higher profits.
