OP_NET Goes Live on Bitcoin Testnet

Late last night, Rik dropped news in the XO server: OP_NET has officially gone live on Bitcoin testnet. It’s a long-awaited metaprotocol that’s been in development for some time, aiming to “introduce smart contract capabilities enabling complex DeFi, DEX, AMM, and cross-chain solutions, without requiring BIPs.”

If you’ve been waiting for real smart contracts on Bitcoin without bridges, sidechains, or protocol upgrades, OP_NET might just be the one.

So… what is OP_NET?

OP_NET enables developers to build and deploy smart contracts directly on Bitcoin. It doesn’t rely on Layer 2s, custodians, or wrapped assets. Everything runs on Bitcoin’s native base layer.

For the devs: smart contracts compile to WebAssembly (WASM), meaning you can write them in over 10 languages, like Rust or AssemblyScript, and execute them natively on Bitcoin. The scope is wide: OP_20 tokens, DeFi dApps, stablecoins, RWAs, and more.

Ordinals

We’ve got a new entry in the top 10 today: Ordinal Tamarins, a free mint that sold out in under 30 minutes.

Beyond that, not much else to report. No single collection managed to cross 1 BTC in 24-hour volume.

OG Runes

Outside of $DOG, volume’s looking thin here too.

$DOG gained 2% on the day, $MIM crept up 3.5%, and $RSIC is just about holding above 0.5 sats with a slight rise. Nothing dramatic, but not a bloodbath either.

OdinFun, FunkyBit, and Alkanes

Green across the board for the top 5 on OdinFun. Feels like quiet accumulation ahead of expected platform updates.

On FunkyBit, things remain steady with the top 2 still way out in front.

Over on Alkanes, CheekyB slips out of the top 5, with $BUTANE re-entering to claim fifth. $DIESEL, still the leader, takes a 10.5% hit as the recent hype fades.

All three platforms look like they’re in a holding pattern while we wait for the next round of dev updates.
