We’ve Seen This Movie Before

As we’ve reported in recent weeks, the buzz around the Runes ecosystem has been heating up again. In fact, it all began around the same time XO Daily was launched. Coincidence? We think not!

We're starting to see a shift, though. Instead of interest coming from our relatively small bubble of OGs and die-hards, attention is now being drawn from bigger names, some of whom aren’t Bitcoin natives. With more posts and discussions about Runes popping up, even the most skeptical seem to be taking notice once again.

A good reference point comes from Dfarmer, who offered a sobering take: "Runes were overhyped, had horrible UX, and were overloaded with unfunny, unorganic memes." Despite this underwhelming start, Dfarmer quickly switches it up to point out that the market caps for Runes are still ridiculously low compared to meme tokens on other chains, like Solana, where projects often skyrocket to multi-million-dollar valuations.

The takeaway here? Timing. Dfarmer stresses that "this is the time when the risk/reward is best," urging people to get in while it's hard, not easy.

OG Ordinals legend @0wl builds on Dfarmer’s ideas, diving deep into what a potential Bitcoin-driven "silly season" could mean for Runes in a standout post.

The founder of Inscribed Pepes draws parallels between the current memecoin craze and the NFT frenzy of 2021. He suggests that if Bitcoin breaks its all-time highs, we might see a similar frenzy in the Runes market. "In a true silly season, people make trading decisions on a whim and turbo-ape into anything they think might make them money," says 0wl.

Moreover, he believes that the clunky infrastructure surrounding Runes could actually work in its favor, creating a "hard to buy" dynamic that fuels demand.

Once again: get in when it’s hard, not easy.

Additionally, Runes minting is surging again, with 74.2% of all Bitcoin transactions in the last 24 hours being related to Runes, spending over 5.1 BTC ($315,962). This momentum echoes the first six months of Ordinals, which saw an initial peak volume of $13M in May 2023 on MEonBTC, before soaring to $162M a year later—a staggering 12x jump.

“Trust us when we say, we've seen this movie before.” says COO of Magic Eden, ZEDD.

The key takeaway here is the groundwork is being laid for even higher volumes, with key developments like bid/ask swaps and infrastructure upgrades on the horizon.

Magic Eden, in particular, has been dedicating significant time and resources to improving these aspects. “Get in when it’s hard, not easy,” has been one of the main points hammered home during this feature. Time may be running out on that front.

It almost feels like the perfect storm has been brewing.

Daily Alpha | Fractal's Exciting Q4 Roadmap Unveiled

Fractal's Q4 2024 roadmap has just been released and it’s packed with exciting updates for all enjoyers of the Fractal movement!

In October, Fractal will activate Runes at block 84,000, enabling interaction between Bitcoin Runes and Fractal Runes via SimpleBridge. CAT20 tokens will also be indexed in UniSat Wallet, with on-chain transfers and a trustless CAT20 trading market going live soon. Additionally, Fractal will announce the recipients of its Season 1 Retroactive Grant, supporting projects that contribute to the ecosystem.

November brings Fractal governance, introducing a new OP_CAT voting model where users can lock FB to participate in decision-making. PizzaSwap will also see major upgrades, including LP locking, staking, and expanded liquidity options for Fractal assets.

December's plans include zkAtomicSwap for trustless asset trading between Bitcoin and Fractal networks, along with full support for the advanced CAT protocol.

It’s generally accepted that weekend volume can drag, but the top 5 collections on Ordinals did not get that memo in the past 24 hours!

NodeMonkes sit firmly at the top, as is often the case, with over double the volume of second-place Runestone.

Bitcoin Frogs continue their resurgence with impressive volume, and the surprise package of the day comes from Bitcoin Wizards, which are showing signs of life likely due to the pump from $WZRD playing a part.

Taproot Witches fell from 6th to 10th place, barely scraping into the top 10 as their volume shows signs of slowing down.

Bitmap sees a nice 142% increase, along with Natcats, both of which are breaking back into the top 10 due to the DMT craze, which has been gaining attention on and off. With the TAP TGE just around the corner, we might see a big move from these two in particular due to their links with the ecosystem.

Runes

Uptober? Nope, it’s PUPTOBER! The $PUPS are on a tear and have dominated the volume chart all weekend, marking what could be the start of one of the greatest comeback stories in all of crypto lore. An honorable mention goes to $BDC, which is now firmly established in “The Big Three” alongside $DOG and $PUPS.

Sasha-The-Bitcoin-Dog is the one new Rune that hasn’t faded into utter obscurity; quite the opposite! It is gaining more volume, and the price is rising. However, is this a “sell the news” event leading into the HBO documentary set to air on the 9th?

The bottom half of the top 10 features mostly Runes that have been grinding throughout the bear market: WANKO, BIP, and SAIKO. The latter was called by our chief alpha caller, WhiteCoco4U, leading many an XO to some sweet profits over the weekend. If you followed his call back in September, you’re up and sitting pretty!
