Will Taproot Wizards Make NFTs Fun Again?

The day of the Taproot Wizards mint has arrived! Weeks of excitement, controversy, and endless debates over mint qualifications and the 0.2 BTC price tag have raged on, with some saying it is too expensive while others see it as a valuable long-term hold.

Price is relative. If you do not have enough BTC, or do not think the risk and reward for flipping is strong compared to other opportunities, then yes, it is expensive. But for those holding multiple Bitcoin, owning one of 2,000 Wizards—arguably the most sought-after Ordinals collection—is a different story.

Casey Rodarmor summed it up best by saying the quiet part out loud:

The bigger question is whether this high-profile mint could breathe life back into not just Ordinals and Runes, but the broader NFT market as well?

Signs of cross-chain/cross-culture interest are already showing. High-profile figures outside the Ordinals space, such as Nic Carter and Cobie, have adopted honorary Wizards as their PFPs, which speaks to a broader point about why this mint could be different.

Carter, known for his institutional and Bitcoin-focused views, rarely engages with NFT culture, and is more known for his analytical takes on Bitcoin's monetary properties, institutional adoption, and regulatory developments.

Cobie, on the other hand, is a leader in the degen, on-chain trading scene but has no major affiliation to Ordinals itself, or any chain for that matter, but is heavily tied to Ethereum and Solana communities more than any. His influence stretches across memecoins, NFTs, and on-chain speculation.

With these two figures representing different crypto subcultures, their involvement in Taproot Wizards could act as a bridge between Bitcoin purists and the more experimental, degen communities; a cross-pollination that has the potential to bring fresh liquidity and new participants into the Ordinals ecosystem.

Other influencers from Ethereum and Solana, like Minh and Wale, have also shown interest, and even Neo Tokyo News, an Ethereum based community with a gaming focus, have started asking people (Editors note: “I am “people.”) to come on and speak about the mint in Spaces out of curiosity.

OMB recently minted out with very strong demand, and in some of the worst conditions we’ve ever seen, but excitement largely stayed within the Ordinals space. With Taproot Wizards, we could see a completely different dynamic. If this mint sparks widespread engagement, it could bring a much-needed resurgence to NFTs as a whole.

There’s also the financial impact, but this will mainly affect Ordinals rather than NFTs as a whole.

Many minters today won’t be holding long-term; they’re looking for a profitable flip. Not all proceeds will flow back into Ordinals, but with collections like NodeMonkes, OMB, Puppets, and Quantum Cats already showing strong risk-reward potential, some of that liquidity will likely stay in the ecosystem as bettors find a new place to park their newly acquired Bitcoin.

If you're minting today, congratulations. It’s looking like a big win for us all today!

Todays Markets

Catch up with Landy in last night’s Macro Monday:

Ordinals

OMB and NodeMonkes are nearly tied for volume today, with the top four collections continuing to dominate.

Once again, it’s a mixed bag of ups and downs. Quantum Cats take the biggest hit, down 12%, while BTC Machines continue their climb, up 8%.

This chart is about to look very different tomorrow, with Taproot Wizards inevitably taking the top spot. (Yes, you heard that bold prediction here first.) The real questions are: where will the floor settle, and how much volume will it generate?

My guesses are a 0.49 BTC floor and 17 BTC in volume. What do you think? Drop your predictions in today’s X thread.

Runes (Bitcoin Memecoins)

Runes are looking a lot like Ordinals today: no clear direction overall.

The top three, $DOG, $MIM, and $RSIC, are all down, while others hold steady. $PUPS and $NMS perform best among the more established Runes.

The biggest winner, though, is Alkimiya’s BTC•FEERATE•RUNES, up 25%. What is it? Its value is pegged to Bitcoin’s feerate, so when network congestion spikes, so does its price.

If that’s the case, could this be a solid long-term play before Bitcoin fees spiral out of control? Maybe.

Lots of green on today’s board for OdinFun, but the OdinApe vs. OdinDog battle rages on.

Not much else to say until platform updates roll out. With attention elsewhere for now, this could be the time to position yourself in the tokens you believe aren’t scams and do actually have a future.
