Rodarmor Sets the Record Straight on Agents

Following on from yesterday’s issue bringing you the lowdown on Agents, Casey Rodarmor has provided an update on what they actually are, refuting a few points that have been floating around on X.

While we at XO weren’t caught out by these hallucinations, what with being a trusted source of truth and all, here are the clarifications to bring you up to speed:

  • Agents aren’t AMMs like Uniswap. There’s no pooling of assets, no algorithmic liquidity. Agents will act more like automated individual storefronts, not shared liquidity pools.

  • This isn’t a protocol upgrade. Nothing on-chain is changing.

  • ORD 1.0 introduces a new wallet backend using Bitcoin Dev Kit. That’s a necessary step toward Agents, but Agents aren’t part of ORD 1.0, nor are they under active development yet.

  • Casey made it clear: there’s no roadmap. Agents are still conceptual, with major usability hurdles ahead. If you think they’re shipping soon, temper your expectations.

A useful exchange between Casey and Leonidas this morning shed more light on how Agents could function in practice. Leonidas proposed a scenario where a large market maker spins up a DOG/BTC Agent using ord, allowing aggregator platforms like Xverse to route swaps through it, creating an AMM-like experience for users, but without giving up custody.

Casey confirmed this is absolutely possible. While not a traditional AMM with pooled liquidity, it still enables trustless two-sided swaps, which is the core value.

The main challenge Casey flagged is discoverability and how users would know which Agent to route through if multiple liquidity providers are operating. Leonidas suggested a solution where websites, run by trusted third parties, could handle routing and display the cheapest available Agent for any given pair.

So while the tone of Casey’s follow-up post was a bit of a letdown for those hyped up by all the speculation, the direction is still exciting. It’s a long road, but we’re used to that by now, right?

Todays Markets

Ordinals

Quantum Cats fall again today and are now hovering close to mint price, with many assuming this is the bottom or somewhere near it. Meanwhile, Bitcoin Puppets rebound well after yesterday’s 6% loss.

Hashrate Hackers are a new entry in 5th place today. This collection, powered by Blockware, is a mining project where holders compete for Bitcoin every month through prize pools “created by an industrial scale mining operation.”

Mint is currently ongoing in the Allowlist phase over on the Trio platform.

RSIC Metaprotocol is the biggest gainer of the day once again, closely followed by OnChainMonkey, both of which have imminent events coming up in the short term.

Runes (Bitcoin Memecoins)

Amazing things happening on Runes again! But for all the wrong reasons today!

Shortly after Casey Rodarmor’s clarification on Agents, you could watch in real time as the confused masses panic-listed their freshly accumulated Rune bags. Sweating, breathing heavily, eyes darting; trying to make sense of the situation.

In all honesty though, Runes had a very good day yesterday, so it’s no surprise to see a pullback. Casey’s post definitely took the wind out of the sails, but we’ve seen worse reactions to much less.

There are a couple of standouts though: $BRO is up 5%, and $NMS is holding flat, which deserves a nod considering the broader dip.

OdinApe up a casual 184231% overnight. Wait, what is OdinApe? This wasn’t here yesterday.

Let’s take a look:

  • For a start, the socials link links to @Bitcoin. Wut.

  • The distribution looks terrifying. 16 wallets hold 4% or more, controlling 64% of the entire supply.

  • Those wallets (plus more) were allegedly all funded at the same time.

This would have been a dream to get into early on, and it was called in the XO OdinFun thread as early as 10 sats(!!!), but if you’re thinking of getting in now, reconsider your options perhaps.

In other news, SuperEx hosted an X Space with Bob Bodily yesterday, which was received as a bit underwhelming overall.

The main takeaways from the past 24 hours:

  • if you still have conviction in OdinFun and the established tokens on there, this dip is an opportunity.

  • despite OdinApe looking incredibly dodgy, it ran like hell from a tiny market cap. Stay alert, don’t get disheartened, and catch the next one.
