Bitcoin Doesn’t Have This Problem

There are plenty of reasons we want some interesting price action to return. Not just for our portfolios to soar to ATHs, or to kill the boredom, but unfortunately, one of the biggest bits of news doing the rounds right now is an ad put out by Solana yesterday. It gave everyone something to talk about at least, but perhaps for all the wrong reasons.

The ad, which has already been deleted, featured a flustered man in a psychologist’s office rebuking media lies, pronouns, and how he’s finally waking up now that “America is back.” It was trying to riff off Trump-era themes and anti-woke talking points, but it ended up feeling like an extremely unnatural attempt at being edgy and inspirational at the same time. It was neither.

And what does any of this have to do with Solana? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. That’s what made it so baffling. This is the kind of stuff that makes people outside of crypto think we’ve collectively lost the plot. 1000 years of harm done to our industry overnight, even worse than $LIBRA, perhaps.

If the man in the ad was supposed to represent Solana, it backfired spectacularly. He didn’t come off as someone breaking free, instead, he came off like a puppet who only found a backbone once the political tides shifted. A massive own goal.

Whether you lean left, right, or both, at least stand for something with conviction. Otherwise, you just look like you’re chasing the narrative of the day—which incidentally, is the only link that could be made to Solana here. (They should have run with that, reach out to us for your next ad.)

The silver lining here was that, for once, an industry often so fractured actually agreed on something; this ad was awful. No matter your politics, everyone seemed united in asking how did this even make it past the first draft?

Another silver lining: Bitcoin doesn’t have this problem. No CEO, no cringey marketing team trying to jump on culture war trends. Bitcoin just runs. That’s the beauty of it. This isn’t even a dig at Solana the tech, which is clearly great, it’s just a reminder that when you have a central team making calls, you also inherit their capacity to fumble the bag in public.

Web3 companies, just like corporations, will say whatever’s trending if it means more eyeballs and more dollars. Observe:

Regardless of your stance on the ad’s content, politics and Web3 rarely mix well. You go hard on one side and you instantly risk alienating half your user base. As evidenced, Solana has attempted to alienate both sides at different points over the past five years.

If you’re going to go political, fine. At least mean it. But honestly, why bother? Just run the network and innovate.

Quantum Cats remain strong in the top position with over 4 BTC of sales in the past 24 hours. This puts the Cats at fourth overall across all chains.

IDIOTS haven’t faded into obscurity like many recent mints. They’re holding well above mint price and continue to have a strong presence, with solid engagement on X. That’s no doubt helped by delivering on the promise of the IDIOT Tax, which featured in today’s top posts.

Runes (Bitcoin Memecoins)

It’s one of those very low-volume days over on Runes, with $DOG barely breaking half a Bitcoin traded again. That said, CoinGecko paints a very different picture, showing $9.3 million in 24-hour trading volume.

$DOG and some other Runes are available to buy on other platforms and chains, so is this a sign users are turning away from Magic Eden’s format? It’s starting to look that way.

Another example is $BILLY. CoinGecko shows $34,000 in trading volume, but less than a third of that happened on Magic Eden. Most of it came from MEXC, CoinEX, and Meteora on Solana.

$BITCAT continues to do an inverse of what happened last week, losing another 35 percent today. That leaves a clear path for OdinCat to reclaim second place.

No major changes beyond that. OdinDog still holds a strong lead after last week’s brief and distant challenge from $BITCAT.
