The Wait’s Over! Taproot Wizards Set to Drop This Month

Finally, some good news to share!

The long-awaited Taproot Wizards collection is finally set to mint, scheduled for March 25th. First inscribed in early 2023, the 2,121-piece collection has become one of, if not arguably the most, highly revered Ordinals collections, despite the fact the release has never been public, until now.

For so long now, plenty have been wondering how exactly one might get their hands on a Wizard, and now (almost) all the details are clear.

There are three ways to secure a mint:

1. Quantum Cats holders with a pair of “Dead” and “Alive” traits can mint a Wizard for 0.1 BTC—but you’ll need to process the “Entangling” on your Cats, which locks them up until after the mint.

2. Whitelist spots will go to top community supporters who’ve completed Taproot Wizards’ Quests. Remember that strange fever dream of dressing up as a Wizard and filming yourself? You’ll be doing that kind of thing again soon, with Quest 5 dropping shortly.
   These wallets will be eligible to mint at the standard price of 0.2 BTC, and it’s been strongly advised to complete Quest 5 if you want a real shot at that list.

3. A limited number of Wizards will be sold via a Dutch auction, starting at a higher price and open to anyone—bidding will be available in both BTC and SOL.

To participate in the mint, you’ll need an Xverse wallet, and the whole process will only be accessible via desktop browsers (Ledger support included).

As always, reactions have been mixed.

Fans of Taproot Wizards are obviously hyped at the prospect of finally being able to own one, with many rightly calling it a landmark moment for Ordinals.

There are others who are not quite as thrilled, specifically about the the 0.2 BTC mint price for those who don’t hold a Dead and Alive Cat combo. Expect some FUD to ramp up as we get closer to mint day.

However, it’s worth remembering that OMB Black Eyes faced similar criticism pre-mint, and that all turned out just fine in the end.

Additionally, there’s zero doubt this is a premium collection—it was never going to be a cheap mint. The simple fact is, not everyone can own a Taproot Wizard, and honestly, after some of the antics we’ve seen on secondary with cheap mints lately, maybe a bit of price gatekeeping isn’t such a bad thing to help stave off that level of depravity.

It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out post-mint.

And then there are the neutrals, like Beanie, who noted it’s impressive they’ll mint out so easily in a market like this. Fair point. Whether you’re a holder or not, this is a big win for Ordinals.

Ordinals

The Taproot Wizards mint announcement has sent Quantum Cats down 26%, likely from holders who only had one Cat offloading, especially if they don’t have the spare capital to grab a second for the discounted T.W. price.

Once the dust settles, prices will likely stabilize as eligible holders start “entangling” their Cats and locking them up until March 25.

Jeets on Bitcoin is currently in its public phase, with only 17% of the collection minted so far. Secondary is holding slightly above mint, but it’s already starting to drift back down toward 0.00064 price at the time of writing.

Elsewhere, IDIOTS is now trading below mint after a 30% drop on the day.

Runes (Bitcoin Memecoins)

OdinDog is absolutely dominating once again, up a massive 70% since yesterday!

Others in the top five have bounced back well too, with $SPARKS standing out at +74%. Pretty impressive strength, especially given the broader market uncertainty right now.

It’s more of a mixed bag among the OG Runes, though, most of the top five are down since yesterday.

$MIM is back above 2 sats, and $RSIC is pushing to reclaim 1 sat ahead of the highly anticipated Block 888,888 event.

Volume remains a challenge on Magic Eden, with only $DOG managing to clear 1 BTC in trading volume, though it did so comfortably, hitting 3.28 BTC.

There’s been a growing wave of chatter about Magic Eden’s UX being the reason behind these sluggish volumes. And whether you agree or not, expect those conversations to get louder if this trend continues.
